General Manager, Marketing of Multichoice, Mr Martins Mabutho, said that there would also be live matches on the Super Sport HD channels on DStv. “Our subscribers will have access to full coverage of the 261 events that will be showcased in 17 Sports,” Mabutho said.

The Games, which runs between July 23 and August 2 will have 70 Commonwealth teams in attendance. Mabutho explained that apart from the Commonwealth Games, DStv also has the TV rights of Big Brothers Africa and all the top leagues in Europe for the 2014/2015 season, including the prestigious UEFA Champions League.

He declared Multichoice’s support for the Adamawa and Plateau states police commands on the ban placed on operators of football-viewing centres during the on-going FIFA World Cup.

Adamawa and Plateau State Police Commands said recently that the ban became imperative after it was discovered that they had become targets of terrorist attacks. Mabutho said the moved by both state Police commands was necessary considering the state of insecurity in the north and Plateau State in particular.

“We will support government in ensuring that lives of people are not lost during the global fiesta,” he added. He noted that it is important for DStv to support the initiative of the state Police Command in saving the lives of football-loving people of the state.

It could be recalled that on May 24, a viewing centre in Jos, Plateau State, full of football fans watching the Champions League final match between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid, was bombed. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the heinous act.
