“I have done the surgery, everything is fine and I am recovering well,” the Everton striker said. Yakubu tore his Achilles tendon in the Toffees 1-0 win at Tottenham last month and will be missing not only for the rest of the season, but crucially, for Nigeria’s World Cup qualification games. “I am going to miss three games for Nigeria, which is not good. I always want to help my country and it is important for us to qualify for the World Cup. “But I have confidence in the boys that they will do a good job when the time comes and I will try to be there to cheer for them.”
In the Yak’s absence, Everton travelled to Manchester and came away with a hard fought victory over City, a result that left the forward in good spirits. “That was a fantastic effort by the boys. They did very well and I am proud of them. It is not easy to go there and win especially when you have so many injuries in the team.”
