Tanzanian Woman Boxer

Catherine Komba describes her successful life as a female boxer in Tanzania.

I am 27 years old and have two children. I started boxing last year to earn money to pay for food and education for my children. They are proud that I am a boxer.
Equal rights
There are only four women boxers in Tanzania.
We are treated the same way as the male boxers.
We have contracts for fights and receive the correct medical support before and during bouts.

Surprised
I really enjoy boxing. It's just another job for me.
When I tell people what I do they are surprised to begin with but then they encourage me.

Knock out
I am never nervous before a fight. I am relaxed and focused.
So far I have had four fights and have won all four, one with a knock out.

Hard punching
I train for three hours a day so I am fit.
I am very aggressive and like to punch hard. I don't worry about getting hurt.

Joy of victory
I knocked out my opponent in the third round.
It felt good to win.
I didn't feel sorry for her. This is just a game.

Rising star
My purse for winning this bout was about $40.
It's not very much, but I'm hoping to progress to bigger fights in Africa and Europe.
There is a chance that I may travel to the UK this year.
