The College of Screeners for the Abuja International
Film Festival (AIFF) has released the nominees for this year’s edition of the
festival. It will hold from September 25 to 28 at the Siverbird Cinemas, Abuja.
From the list of nominees in
the 10 different categories, Nigeria films make a good showing with films like
Phone Swap (Nigeria), Holding Hope (Nigeria), Till Death Do Us Part (Nigeria)
and Without from the U.S. topping the list of films with nominations in four
categories.
Festival Director, Mr. Fidelis
Duker expressed satisfaction with the preparation for the festival especially
in the area of receiving more entries from Nigeria unlike previous editions.
He said winners would be
announced on September 27, 2012 at the grand award ceremony
where eminent Nigerians, business organisations and major stakeholders would be
celebrated.
Those penciled down for
honours include Governors of Kano (Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso), Akwa Ibom (Godswill
Obot Akpabio) and Ondo (Olusegun Mimiko).
Others are Africa Magic
Channel, Olu Jacob, Kate Henshaw, Adebayo Salami and Okechukwu Ogunjiofor.
The theme for the film feast
is Nollywood At 20: Celebrating a Phenomenon.

Film’ Nigeria, the list include Till
Death Do Us Part – Tope Oshin Ogun; 500 Dollars - Mohammed Musulumi; and
Young Smoker – Tope Osin Ogun.

Foreign, there are Double Happiness - Taiwan; Barefoot Humanity -
Italy; Behind The Window – Lebanon; 0507 – U.K.; Zambezi News - Zimbabwe;
The Substitute – Israel; and Light Hearted Boy – Italy. ‘Best Documentary’
category - Goge Africa – Nigeria; Rent Boys – Germany; Sex In City – Zimbabwe and Ginger. ‘Best
Experimental Film’ - Retribution – Nigeria; Game Over - Ghana and Campus Life – Zimbabwe.
In ‘Best Animation Film’
category, are Mission – Nigeria; Zaniek Geliago – France; A
Mysterious Fish - Spain and Losser Leg – Italy. For ‘Outstanding Male
Act’, Joseph Benjamin in Married But Living Single; Desmond Elliot in Holding
Hope; Bryan Okwere in I Will Take My Chances; Ron Carrier in Without and Wole
Ojo in Phone Swap make the list. In ‘Outstanding Female Act’, Nse Ikpe Etim in
Phone Swap, Uche Jombo in Holding Hope, Ini Edo in I Will Take My Chances,
Joselyn Jensen in Without and Amara Amoji in Till Death Do Us Part also make
the list of nominees.
