Abuja
– A nutritionist, Ms Ngozi Eze, has advised Nigerians to add milk or milk
products to their diets to ensure growth and strong bones.
The
advice came against the background of the World Milk Day celebrated on Friday.
In
an interview Eze underscored the need to sensitise the public about the
importance of milk.
According
to her, just as children need milk to grow, adults need it because it contains
proteins essential for normal body function.
“Nigerians
should ensure that they have milk or milk products in their diets, especially
for growing children, pregnant women and nursing mothers.
She
said milk and milk-derived products were “basic, easy-to-find food loaded with
nutrients”, adding that they are among the richest sources of calcium essential
for bone repair and strengthening.
The
Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) declared June 1 as World Milk Day and
it is celebrated globally. (NAN)
