SKYFALL has beaten all
previous James Bond films by scoring the second best ever opening weekend at
the UK box office in the spy
franchise's 50th anniversary year.
The Daniel Craig-starring
flick raked in a massive £20.1million, with only Harry Potter And The Deathly
Hallows Part 2 keeping it off the top spot.
The finale of the JK Rowling
adaptations – released in July last year – banked £23million in its first three
days on general release.
However, Skyfall has gone
down in the history books as the all-time most attended film on a Saturday in
the UK.
Talking about the 007
movie’s mega-grossing weekend across all territories apart from the US, Sony exec Rory Bruer said:
“This picture has such an incredible DNA and to be so loved by critics and
audiences alike will push it be one of the biggest, if not biggest, Bond pics.”
Producers Michael G. Wilson
and Barbara Broccoli commented: "We are absolutely overwhelmed with the
reaction to Skyfall this weekend. It is particularly thrilling as the UK is home to James Bond and
it being the 50th anniversary year."

Skyfall’s impressive takings
prove Craig’s popularity in the tough shoes of the superspy is on the rise.
His debut 2006 Bond flick
Casino Royale took £13.4million in its opening weekend, while 2008 film Quantum
Of Solace netted £15.4million.
Skyfall will explode onto US
cinema screens on November 9.
Meanwhile, it’s been
reported that Skyfall writer John Logan is already scripting the next James
Bond tale – which will be unveiled over two parts.
Craig is already on board to
star in the movie double and Skyfall director Sam Mendes hasn’t ruled out
returning to the franchise.
