Waiting for Imiefan, her Daddy’s ‘angel’

Questions over death of three -year-old girl as govt seals off school

WHEN Omokaro Jolly went to drop his three-year-old daughter, Imiefan  at her school, Kingdom Heritage Model School, last Thursday,  she put up her cheek for his kiss before running into her classroom, asked him to buy her chocolates when coming for her later in the day.

A doting father, he bought the chocolates, which little Imiefan would never ever enjoy.
Her body was found lifeless in the school toilet.
According to sources, a teacher in the school, which is owned and managed by Winners Chapel Church, found the body lying in a pool of water in the toilet and raised alarm, which alerted the management of the school.
The body was said to have been taken to the Winners Chapel Church, where pastors engaged in prayers to revive the girl but to no avail. She had passed on.

When the girl’s mother, Osarogue, came to the school to pick up  her daughter at closing time, she was said to have been told that her child was missing and that they were looking for her.
A distraught father said he could not understand how the girl he took to school hale and hearty could now be said to have died.
He said it took the school authorities over two hours before the news of the child’s death was broken to him and his wife and that was after the little girl had been taken to a hospital where a nurse on duty confirmed her dead.

According to him: “When I dropped my daughter in school, she said I should buy her chocolates when I came to pick her in the afternoon.
“But now, I can’t see my angel.
“The hospital said my child was brought dead. Until now, nobody has told me what happened to my baby.
“I could not bring my baby to school and they expect me to collect a lifeless body.

“It is their responsibility to tell me what happened to my daughter“.
Mother of little Imiefan, Mrs. Osarogue, who was so depressed and looking devastated, in tears lamented:
“I went to the school and asked where my love was, but nobody answered me. I asked the aunty and she told me my daughter went to the toilet.”

“After waiting for some minutes, I was told my daughter was in the main church playing. I went to the church and was told my daughter was with the pastor. I went to the pastor’s office and saw the bursar of the school crying.
“It was there I was told something was wrong with my daughter.”
A heart-broken  Omokaro described Imiefan as the pride of the family.

He said an autopsy revealed that she suffered from asphyxia caused by drowning, adding that the matter had since been reported at the Etete Police Station, GRA, with the class-teacher and two nannies at the school in police custody.
However, the Edo State government has ordered the closure of the school pending a full-scale investigation into the matter.
