Delta State female basketball team coach Nosa Uyigue
says the host, Lagos State, is employing home advantage to subdue
opponents in order to finish among the top teams at the 18th National
Sports Festival.
Delta lost the semifinal match played at the Rowe
Park, Yaba, by 51-45 to Lagos in women’s basketball on Wednesday but
Usigbe alleged that the fixture was twisted while the rules were also
bent in the hosts’ favour.
“They (Lagos State) used home advantage against us.
They have done all these to suit themselves and now they have achieved
it,” he began.
“We were supposed to play with the Federal Capital
Territory in the semifinal stage, because they didn’t come top in the
group, but it was later changed and we had to play another team that
came first in group stage,” Uyigue alleged.
“All team that qualified for the semi final stage
were screened but there was no screening for the Lagos team. My team
played with 8 players against 12 players after some of my players were
ruled out of the match by the screening officials. This is an exercise
we were not told about at the beginning of the games.”
