Former Super Eagles defender Emeka Ezeugo has advised the Nigerian
team to “get down and dirty” with African champions Zambia in their next
group game on Friday.
Nigeria were forced to a 1-1 draw by
Burkina Faso just as Zambia recorded a similar result against Ethiopia
on Monday. The four teams will need victories to brighten their chances
of advancing to the knockout stages of the competition.
The Ethiopians, who are the least FIFA-ranked team in the tournament, have suddenly earned everyone’s respect.
“Zambia still remains the defending
champions and they sure deserve a little respect. For Nigeria to beat
them we can’t show up so flat like we did against Burkina Faso. We must
show up with our A-game, get down and dirty with them. We must want the
three points more,” the former Iwuanyanwu Nationale defender said.
“The team can do much better. Monday’s
performance was ordinary. It was the first game but they lacked
organisation identity and essential character that separates men from
boys,”
“They don’t know what transition moments
signify and it was obvious they didn’t know how to act and react to the
crucial, match-deciding moments. I hope they will come out smoking hot
in their coming matches.”
