In a bid to move the hair industry to international standards,
Universal Hair Care Limited and Hair Media recently held the first ever
“Hairdressers’ Conference and Exhibition” in Lagos.
During the event,
over 2000 hairdressers and beauticians gathered for the purpose of being
empowered through various initiatives aimed at taking the industry to
the international standards.
The day’s event began with a lecture on “Motivation and Profit Making
in the Hair Industry” given by Mr. Friday Slyvanus. This was followed by
a lecture by a widely traveled and experienced hair expert and former
National President of Ghana Hairdressers’ Association, Joyce Appiah, on
“Relating Salon Management in West Africa to international Standards”.
Shortly after, was entertainment by the “Revolution Dancers”, a highly
energetic, talented, and experienced group of dancers, who thrilled the
audience with their stunts and display of expertise. Coming next was a
message from Ogechi Altraide, the Business manager of Diamond Bank Plc,
the official bank of the “2012 Hairdressers Conference &
Exhibition”.
There was also a comedy performance by Larry J, a witty, talented
comedian, who got the audience laughing without any caution whatsoever.
Following shortly was gift presentation by the Hair associations to the
international guest speaker from Ghana, Joyce Appiah and also to the
current president, Ghana Hairdressers Association, Mrs. Elizabeth
Bossman. The award presentation was followed by musical performance by
Henry Soul, a promising upcoming artiste.
The beauticians and hairdressers known for their love for music were
excited when a dancing competition was announced as everyone tried to
out dance the other. As expected in a competition of this type, winners
must emerge. The winners of 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions went home with
dinner sets and lots of other prizes, courtesy of Universal Hair Care.
Major hair association in Nigeria such as NASHCO, LABHCA, AHA, OSHBCO,
ASOLBACH were present. Beauty schools like Elegant Twins School, Opral
Benson Beauty School, Sholly Beauty World, Evergreen School of
Cosmetology, Licom, Jerobeth, Whuzdat Girl and DownTown Schools were
also there. Independent salon owners were not left out as they too came
to participate in the conference; some from as far away as Port
Harcourt, Abuja and Zaria.
Publisher of African Hair and Beauty magazine, Mr. Smith, expressed
gratitude for the support given by the sponsors as well as to those who
worked tirelessly to ensure a successful outing.
