The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will officially hand back the
Africa Cup of Nations trophy to the Confederation of African Football
(Caf) on Wednesday.
The development was announced in a statement released to
fazfootball.com by Faz General Secretary George Kasengele on Tuesday.
Kasengele stated that the Afcon trophy would leave Football House on
Wednesday and would be handed back to Caf in Johannesburg.
“It will be a very emotional moment. We had become used to having the
trophy around us as proof of our incredible feat last year. The going
away of the trophy should invigorate and re-energise our resolve to
bring it back to Zambia for a further two years,” said Kasengele.
And Chipolopolo coach Herve Renard has assured the nation that the
Chipolopolo technical team and players will do their best to ensure
the trophy returned to Zambia in 2013.
“We are in South Africa to bring the trophy back to our country . I
can assure you that the players and the staff will do everything to
make for the second time consecutively Zambia very proud,” said
Renard.
“2012 was a amazing year for all of us. I believe we can do it
again,” concluded the 2012 African coach of the year.
