Stella Francis Ebegbune, popularly known as D’LYTE, a fast-rising artiste, has two albums to her credit. The Law graduate from Ambrose Ali University, Edo State, says she
does not use much make-up or accessories because she is naturally
beautiful. Excerpts:
Growing up
Growing up for me was an interesting process, as I learnt at an early age the difference between good and bad and their benefits. I learnt to respect not only older people but also myself and younger people too, irrespective of who they were. I learnt to regard and appreciate life because if you treat life so cheaply, you might never get a second chance. My parents made us realise we were equal in the eyes of God. Therefore, I learnt not to look down on anyone, because you don’t know what tomorrow holds for you or that person. My parents made us realise that life has no duplicate. My dad always told us to be kind to people and love them the way they were. I am not materialistic and I am always contented with whatever I have. Growing up with my family taught me to be independent. I was pampered and loved; I played football and table tennis with my elder brothers. I’m from Delta State, from the Ibo speaking part, and the last child in the family of seven. We were all born and brought up in Lagos.
Educational background
I had my primary and secondary school education in Lagos and later obtained a law degree from Ambrose Ali University, Edo State, Nigeria. I also studied presentation at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN). I did my industrial attachment (IT) at The Beat 99.9 Fm under the supervision of the ace broadcaster, Olisa Adibua. I hope to have my own radio and TV show soon.
Foray into music.
I love to dance and my dad is a very good dancer too. He loves music. I joined different dance groups at a tender age and eventually found my way to NTA where I took part in Tales by Moonlight and Animals Game. I was also with the Kid’s Vision and Speak Out but later found my way to the Charley Boy Fans Club, where I became the vice-president and eventually started writing my own songs. I am glad my family never discouraged me. I love music and I have a burning passion for it.
Description of self.
I am down-to-earth, a happy and humble fellow. I love to love, and happiness for me is highly spiritual, so, I stay happy and energetic 24/7. I can’t stand liars and cheats; they turn me off. I hate pride because it comes before a fall. I love God so much because He’s the reason I’m living today. I love to care for people and I love them to also care for me.
Definition of style.
Style is a distinctive aspect of your reflection, your style is unique to you; it is the way you are and how you want to be perceived.
Beauty regimen.
Well, I am not a regular lady. I love myself and I love to look good. I truly wish I have a beauty regimen but, basically, what I do is that I make sure I keep myself clean at all time. I wash my face at night and in the morning. I stay away from chemical products and eat less of fats and carbohydrate foods. I drink lots of water and eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
Favourite colours.
My favourite colours are black, red and orange. I wish I could love white, but I can’t stand a single stain on white outfits.
Choice of accessories.
Accessories? I am not much into accessories but I love my tiny ear rings, bangles or hand band and a necklace or neck band. I like them simple.
Favourite perfume.
I love good perfumes. I love Elizabeth Arden’s Red Door and Provocative Woman, Lady Million by Paco Rabanne I also love Calvin Klein and Jlo perfumes.
Accessory I can’t do without.
I can do without anything. No fashion item can actually stop me from going for an outing but I love my powder, eye pencil, lip liner and lip gloss. I love to wear my bangles and neck chain too. Inasmuch as I love to look good and dress well, I can manage whatever I have, nothing keeps me standing. I am always in control and because I am naturally beautiful, I don’t do lots of make-ups or accessories because my beauty is natural and unique.
Secret of beauty.
I stay happy at all times because whatever you feel inside reflects on the outside. So, I am always happy no matter what. I also try to catch enough sleep; it really helps to calm the nerves and reduce the day’s stress. I avoid going under the sun. I take lots of water and vegetables. In fact, water does the magic for me. I take lots of fruits and I try to reduce the intake of fatty and carbohydrate foods. And, lastly, I exercise, it helps you maintain a good health and keeps you fit. Exercise also helps the blood to circulate well. I avoid using chemical products on my body and I stay fresh and clean at all times.
Keeping in shape.
I am divinely and naturally endowed. Beauty runs in my family and I praise God for that. I am not a food, food person; I hardly diet. I just eat at the right time and I mind the kind of food I eat. As for exercise, yes, I do light exercises just to stay healthy and keep fit. God has given me a very good body, so I don’t have to kill myself in the gym to keep fit.
Special treat.
I love to give myself a very good treat and I pray to have more free periods to do so. My favourite relaxation spot is the cinemas. I love to do the movies and I also love to shop though it could be stressful. I love to travel just to see different countries.
Most expensive item in my wardrobe
I don’t know and I have never had it in mind to find out what the most expensive thing is. Now that you asked, I’ll check then get back to you.
Opinion on toning.
Well, toning can be used to balance and correct the skin, especially when the skin has patches or when tanned by the sun. It is used to give the skin an even complexion, only that ladies have made it a permanent idea that they must tone.
Cosmetic surgery.
Cosmetic surgery? For correction of health issues, it is okay, but for just beauty sake, hell no! I won’t advice cosmetic surgery except it is pertaining to health correction. If I were the only one on earth and plastic surgery is meant for just “beauty” then all the plastic surgeons would go out of job.
Provocative dressing.
Dress the way you want to be addressed is a popular saying, but for me, I love to be modest in everything I do, every occasion has its own kind of dress sense. I like to look beautiful and sexy but I don’t necessary have to be nude. And dressing provocatively doesn’t make you classy, as it sometimes cheapens your carriage, being modest and sexy is cool.
What I won’t be caught dead wearing.
You can never catch me wearing bou-bou (shapeless gown) popularly made with African material and also buba, iro and gele (blouse and wrapper and headtie or gear. I love my clothes fitted.
