Oomisha Emerges Winner Of The 10th National Mathematics Competition

The National Mathematics competition has come and gone, with emerging winners to compete in the international Olympaids. Ruth Tene Natsa was there to cover the unveiling of the 2013 winners.

Twelve years-old Oomisha Rastogi of Indian Language School, representing Lagos state, has emerged winner of 2013 Annual National Mathematics Competition with a total score of 97.856 points, followed by Imo and Rivers states scoring 96,996 and 96,824 respectively.

Expressing herself after being announced winner, Oomisha said she started preparing for the competition since December 2012 and feels very happy and on top of the world. It feels very amazing, it feels good”, she says.
Oomisha says her life ambitions are to be a “dancer or a doctor. Anyone” when asked what she would love to become after winning the competition, adding that her winning N100,000 aside the scholarship and full tuition will be used to purchase a cell phone for herself”.

The 4th position winner from Premier School, Abuja had a total of 95,410 points, 5th had 95,243  from Blooms Academy, Abuja, Montessori International School came 6th with  95.194  from Rivers state ,Premier International School, Abuja came 7th with 94.897, while LGEA Standards School from Kogi and  Mount Olive  School from Anambra   both took the 8th position with  94.680 points respectively and Abuja again took the 10th position with 94.298 points.

The 10 overall winners of the competition are to enjoy full scholarships for 6 years. While the first 7 will enjoy full tuition and scholarship courtesy of the NTIC, the last three are to enjoy the same scholarship at the International Science Academy (IMSA) sponsored by the National Mathematical Centre.
