NAFDAC warned against use of un-prescribed sex stimulants.
The National Agency
for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, seized various brands
of unregistered aphrodisiacs (sex stimulant drugs) used by men from patent
medicine shops, the Unit Head, NAFDAC Benin office, David West, said on
Tuesday.
Mr. West said 16 offenders involved in the sales of the unwholesome
products in the last four months were also sanctioned.
He said the16 offenders were involved in the sale of banned, expired
and unregistered products.
“The sex stimulant drugs are unregistered and cannot be registered
because the packaging and presentation is offensive and the drugs are dangerous
to health.
“The drugs overwork the heart, which could result to hypertension and
sudden deaths. There were also no names and addresses of where these drugs were
produced,” he said.
Mr. West listed the names of the drugs to include Sexy Bunny, Man Cool,
Le Sexe Cenal and Le Sexe Oral, and advised that the use of such drugs should
be discontinued.
He also advised that the use of sex stimulant drugs should be with the
recommendation of medical doctors.
The NAFDAC representative said that other activities carried out by the
agency within the period under review include breast milk substitute advocacy
and 2012 NAFDAC Consumer Safety Club (NCSC) Quiz competition.
