Celebrating its fiftieth year on British screens, Doctor Who has become as much of a British institution as fish and chips. As 26 seasons of the show have gone by, children and adults alike have been enamoured by the sci-fi series, with the programme’s iconic blue telephone booth the TARDIS and the Doctor’s evil Darlek enemies becoming household names.

Once again, the show is set to enter a new era. As Matt Smith has hung up his tweed jacket for once and for all, speculations have began as to who will become the twelfth Doctor. According to reports, for the first time in the show’s history, there is a possibility that a woman may take the starring role. With names such as Rupert Grint and Russell Tovey also hot on everyone’s lips, a biq question mark looms over the Time Lord to be.
"The fans of Doctor Who around the world are unlike any other; they dress up, shout louder, know more about the history of the show (and speculate more about the future of the show) in a way that I've never seen before, your dedication is truly remarkable," said Matt in his official leaving statement.

"It's been an honour to play this part, to follow the legacy of brilliant
actors, and helm the Tardis for a spell with 'the ginger, the nose and the
impossible one'. But when ya gotta go, ya gotta go and Trenzalore calls. Thank
you guys."
