Kwara Utd Mourns Abacha

A former player of Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Sanni Abacha, is dead.
THISDAY checks revealed  Thursday that the former Super Eagles of Nigeria player died in Ilorin in the early hours of yesterday aged 35 years.


Sources close to the family said Abacha was hale and hearty as at the close of ABS vs Nasarawa United match on Wednesday which he was said to have monitored till the end.
The Kogi born ex- player was said to have slumped later in the night and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Ilorin where he finally gave up.


Abacha stared for 3SC between 1996 and 1997 before he moved to Kwara Utd in 1998 and left the Afonja Warriors in 2000 where he joined Enyimba International in 2001.
He joined Sharks of Port Harcourt in 2002 and re-joined Kwara Utd where he finally retired and he has since being living in Ilorin, the Kwara capital.


Speaking on the incident, the Team Manager of Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, Ibrahim Basambo Agboola, expressed deep shock over the death of the former player.

Agbola said in Ilorin yesterday that Abacha was a committed player who took his job seriously while playing for the Afonja Warriors.

He described his death as a great loss to the football fraternity in Nigeria and said that he died when the country needed his services.
Agboola commiserated with the Abacha family and prayed to God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
