Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has
admitted the club face an anxious wait to discover if David Silva will be available for their final
four games of the season.
The Spanish star was stretchered off during City’s 3-1 win
over West Brom after a tangle with Morgan Amalfitano, with the
winger’s leg being strapped into a heavy cast before he wascarried down the
tunnel.
Victory over the Baggies
keeps the Blues’ Premier League
title hopes alive, with the 2011/12 champions now just six points behind
leaders Liverpool with a game in hand.
However, the loss of
key-man Silva would be a major blow in City’s title chase, and while Pellgrini
admit the winger has played in pain over the last few weeks, he is hopeful it
will only be a short-term problem.
"We will have to
see tomorrow what has happened,” the Chilean said following the game.
“David played the last
three games with pain in his ankle and that is why it wasn't possible for him
to play against Sunderland [last week].
"He got a kick some
weeks ago and every week he has played the game with pain. It is hard to tell
without the doctors giving their assessment but hopefully it will be a
short-term injury."
City looked to have
received a double blow when star striker Sergio Aguero’s night was brought to a
close in the 65th minute after he looked to have picked up a knock.
But Pellegrini did have
some good news on this front, with the manager clarifying Aguero’s
substitution was not injury-related.
“I took off Aguero
because he’s just come back from a long time out with a hamstring injury, so I
tried to give him a maximum 60 minutes.”
