The African National Congress (ANC) has announced the premiers for the
eight provinces of the country.
Three new premiers will take over in Gauteng, North West and Eastern Cape. David Makhura replaces Nomvula Monkonyane as Gauteng’s new premier. He was the Provincial Secretary of the ANC in Gauteng.
In the North West Supra Mahumapelo replaces Thandi Modise. Mahumapelo was deployed by the ANC as the North West provincial legislature Speaker in April 2012.

Eastern Cape’s premier,
Phumulo Godfrey Masualle, who replaces Noxolo Kiviet has held roles both in the
South African Communist Party (SACP) and the ANC. He is also the current ANC
Eastern Cape chairperson.
Out of the
entire eight provinces only one woman, Sylvia Lucas, will take the position of
premier.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal’s premier remains Senzo Mchunu who
was elected premier on 26 September 2013. Free State’s Ace Magashule remains as
premier.
Limpopo ANC chairperson Stan Mathabatha has retained his position as Limpopo premier. He was sworn in on 18 July 2013.

In
Mpumalanga, David Mabuza also remains as the premier. He has been premier since
10 May 2009; and a member of the ANC’s National Executive Committee since 2007.
Out
of the entire eight provinces, only one woman, Sylvia Lucas, will take the
position of premier in the Northern Cape. Lucas was installed as the Northern
Cape premier from 4 April 2013.
