David Cameron recalls 'unhappy' memories of England's last unsuccessful bid to
hold the World Cup in the wake of Qatar corruption scandal
David Cameron has suggested that Britain could bid to host the World
Cup following calls for Qatar to be stripped of its right to host the
tournament.
Fifa is investigating Qatar's bid to host the 2022 World Cup tournament
after the discovery of emails apparently showing that the Gulf State's top
football official paid millions of dollars to his African counterparts.
Mr Cameron today said he would await the results of the investigation,
but added: "Who knows what the chances are for the future?"
He recalled "unhappy" memories of England's bid for the 2018
World Cup when he campaigned alongside David Beckham and the Duke of Cambridge.
He said that every Fifa official told them they would vote for England
to host the tournament, only to "vote completely the other way".
