Clinton notes her disagreement with President Obama on whether to arm Syrian rebels, that as secretary she had been "trying to put together a bigger deal" regarding the U.S. swap of five Taliban prisoners for the release of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl and refused to take a position on the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana.
Hillary Clinton walked into the lion's den Tuesday night, fielding a
barrage of questions about foreign affairs in a Fox News sitdown.
The former secretary of state is working the media circuit to promote
her new book, "Hard Choices," in advance of an expected second run
for President.
Clinton said she could not yet condone the possibility of the United
States joining forces with Iran to quell violence in Iraq.
"I am not prepared to say we go in with Iran right now until we
have a better idea of what we're getting ourselves into," Clinton said.
She also noted her disagreement with President Obama on whether to arm
Syrian rebels, an idea she couldn't sell the White House on while at State.
"We pushed very hard. But as I say in my book, I believe that
Harry Truman was right, the buck stops with the President," Clinton said.
The former senator and first lady also said that as secretary, she had
been "trying to put together a bigger deal" regarding the U.S. swap
of five Taliban prisoners for the release of Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl that would
have more broadly pushed militants to renounce al-Qaeda.
Still, she said Obama had not "disappointed" her in any way
as President.
Clinton, who did not tip her hand as to her 2016 plans in her interview
with Fox or an earlier town hall on CNN, also said forces fighting stronger gun
regulations are a small group that "terrorizes" the majority of
Americans who back such laws.
She refused to take a position on the legalization of medical and
recreational marijuana (while saying she's never used pot herself), said she
opposes reinstating the draft, and is in favor of automatic voter registration
but not mandatory voting.
