Kim Kardashian, Kanye West criticized after North West is seen with pierced ears

After the 1-year-old was seen wearing diamond studs, an outcry erupted on Twitter about whether the child was too young for them.

Is North West too young to have her ears pierced?

That is what some people on Twitter are asking after she was seen wearing what looked like diamond studs during a birthday outing with her parents, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, on Sunday. The outcry is over whether 1-year-old North is old enough to wear earrings.

“Far too young. Let her decide for herself when older! Should be banned, unneccessary (sic) and cruel. Purely for vanity of parents,” one person tweeted on Monday.

Another person on Twitter agreed with this sentiment, especially that it should have been North’s decision to make.

“Shes only a yr old! I think it should be the childs choice NOT the parents!! #SorryNotSorry,” the Twitter user wrote.

Yet others were supportive of North sporting earrings, with some noting that they had their ears pierced at a young age.

“So people are making a big deal cause North West has her ears pierced? I got mine when I was like 3 months. Not that serious,” wrote one person on Twitter.

Another wrote that while he didn’t mind baby North wearing earrings, he did mind her parents’ choice in jewelry.

“No problem with north west having her ears pierced," he wrote. The problem is the earrings are not baby worthy. chunky diamonds arentt (sic) for a bubbas ear."

For parents looking for pointers on a good age for ear piercing, Dr. Mary E. Brown, a pediatrician at Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center, told Today.com that around 8 years old is ideal because he or she can clean and take care of their pierced ears themselves.
