The Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), of the Lagos University
Teaching Hospital (LUTH), will commence its industrial action Monday, June 2.
According to the president of the association, Dr. Olubunmi Omojowolo,
the resolution to resume strike was reached at the emergency general meeting
held on the 28th of May.
“Rising from the emergency general meeting, the association unanimously
agreed to resume our suspended industrial action and embark on an indefinite
strike, commencing on Monday, June 2, by 8 am,” he said.
Omojowolo said the strike was due to a lack of progress in negotiations
and deliberations with the hospital’s management on the issues raised at the
three days warning strike held in April.
The president said that the doctors had a 12-point contention which
included the astronomical increase in hospital charges which had increased the
number of avoidable deaths and affected the training of resident doctors.
