‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ first look: Charlize Theron, Tom Hardy are ready for action

 

Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy are rough, tough and ready to rumble.

Fans of the original “Mad Max” movies have been clamoring for a first look at “Mad Max: Fury Road,” the remake starring Theron and Hardy. And while the film won’t be out in theaters until May 2015, moviegoers can catch a glimpse of the two in action on the July cover of Entertainment Weekly.

Theron and Hardy both look suitably roughed up to play post-apocalyptic road warriors. The “Monster” star sports a buzzcut to play Imperator Furiosa (the actress famously shaved her head for the role), while Hardy steps into Mel Gibson’s shoes, playing the title role of Max “Mad Max” Rockatansky.

It was mental in a brilliant way,” Hardy told the magazine about the seven-month shoot, which took place in the Namibian desert. “You have no concrete, no coffee shops. We were in the middle of a sandpit.”

In a July 2013 interview with ScreenRant, Theron spoke about what drew her to the “Mad Max” remake.
