R&B singer R Kelly's youngest daughter Jaya has come out as transgender.
The I Believe I Can Fly
singer's 13-year-old child made the announcement on his Facebook.com page,
describing himself as a "transguy", who is now going by the name Jay
Kelly.
In a question and answer
session on website Ask.fm, Kelly explained that he has identified as a male
since he was "six or seven" years old, and insists his mother Andrea
Kelly, the singer's ex-wife and star of US reality series Hollywood Exes,
has been extremely supportive of his life-changing transition.
"My mom was like,
'Baby, you know I love you if you were bi (bisexual), gay, lesbian, you name it
and I would still love you so much'," he said.
"She was very proud of
me, I was like, 'Thank you mom for accepting the fact that I'm a
transgender.'"
He also added that he is
eager to undergo the necessary operations to fully become a male so he can be
comfortable in his own skin.
"I believe I am a boy
and want surgery, and the medication to help me (be) who I was supposed to
be," he said.
His father has yet to
publicly comment on the teen's recent announcement.
