I want to be 'traditional to their culture'
Rihanna can rock a sexy look - even when covered from head to toe.
The "Diamonds" singer appears on the cover of the July/August
issue of Harper's
Bazaar Arabia, in a spread described as "The New Modesty: Cover Up in
Style."
And while the star is best known for wearing outfits that leave little to
the imagination, Rihanna wanted the shoot, photographed by Ruven Afanador, to
reflect Middle Eastern style and mores.
"I wanted to do something high fashion, but still something
traditional to their culture," the pop star said in a video
interview taken during the shoot
The editorial features the 28-year-old singer in provocative and
form-fitting clothing that still cover her from head to toe, including a
glittery black body suit. She also rocks unique accessories such as a black
mesh veil and gold face mask.
Rihanna's recent fashion spread recalls controversial photos that the star took at an Abu Dhabi
mosque last fall. The star was criticized after posting Instagram photos of
herself wearing a black form-fitting outfit with a hijab head covering. The
ensemble was deemed too sexy for a visit to the holy site, and she was asked to
leave the mosque.
While those photos got Rihanna in trouble, her Harper's Bazaar shoot is
only drawing praise on social media.
