The Belgium striker completed a £10million move to Liverpool
on Tuesday, signing a five-year contract with the club, but was
immediately sent back on loan to Lille as part of the agreement.
Rodgers was delighted to secure the 19-year-old’s services,
after being impressed with his performances at the World Cup.
However, the Liverpool boss has admitted that he was gutted to
have to loan back Origi to the French club for the upcoming season.
"Well, firstly we are absolutely delighted to sign him
because I genuinely think he has the real potential to go on and be a world
class young player," said Rodgers.
"Of course, as the manager, he is someone that could
have really helped us this season.
"He’s 19 years of age, 6ft 2in, quick, strong and can
score goals. But we knew part of the deal was that he was going back to Lille
on loan."
