Nyako’s impeachment: Panel in search of sitting venue •NJC to appoint new Ag CJ for Adamawa today.

The seven-man panel constituted by the Adamawa State Chief Judge,  to investigate alleged gross misconduct against Governor Murtala Nyako and his deputy, Mr Bala Ngilari, is yet to secure a venue to sit.

According to findings by the Nigerian Tribune, the panel was given quit notice at the first venue, J & J Holiday Villa, over security concerns.

It was gathered customers of the hotel were scared by the presence of heavy security around it, a reason the panel was asked to relocate.

Other hotels visited by the clerk of the state assembly to host the panel equally turned down the offer, for fear of the unknown.

The panel also tried the NLC club, a.k.a Labour House, to commence proceedings, but was told the chairman was away on lesser hajj in Saudi Arabia.

Attempts said to have been made by a former national officer to secure the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Centre also failed as members of the executive of the state council rejected the request for security reasons.

Nigerian Tribune also gathered that the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Honourable Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, had left for Abuja, just as traditional rulers were also said to be meeting to find a way to end the impeachment saga.

Governor Nyako was also at the Council of State meeting held at the Aso Rock, Abuja, on Tuesday, despite impeachment moves against him by the lawmakers.
Meanwhile, the National Judicial Council (NJC) will meet today and a new acting Chief Judge for Adamawa State will be reportedly discussed and settled.

The three-month acting period for the incumbent acting CJ, Ambrose Mamadi, ended on Tuesday.
A new CJ may likely reconstitute the impeachment probe panel.

The state has been without a substantive CJ for about two and a-half years.

Mamadi, fourth in seniority, was favoured by Nyako for the job, despite the most-senior judge, Justice Ishaya Banu, being available.

The council meeting is expected to run through tomorrow.
It could not be confirmed, however, if Nyako had sent any name for appointment in acting capacity, but whoever the council picked could have effect in the impeachment saga.

Nyako’s strategist lobbying lawmakers
In another development, Nigerian Tribune has gathered that those moving to save Nyako had abandoned plans to stop the process and, in its stead, plotting how to frustrate the pro-impeachment lawmakers from getting the required two-thirds majority to approve the guilt verdict expected from the probe panel.
Individual lawmakers are reportedly being targetted on a one-on-one basis.
The source called the situation dicey, but said everything was being thrown into it.

The source did not divulge the kind of deals packaged to stop the attainment of two-thirds majority in the House of Assembly.
