Obama’s presidential library will be a family affair.
His half-sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, is joining the board of the Barack
Obama Foundation, along with the President’s 2008 campaign manager David
Plouffe.
“President Obama deeply trusts their advice, judgment, and expertise,
and we are confident that his future Presidential Library will be stronger for
their input,” the chair of the foundation's four person board, Martin (Marty)
Nesbitt, said in an announcement.
Soetoro-Ng, who works at the University of Hawaii, will likely lobby
for a Hawaii site to house her brother’s post-White House project.
The tropical island, Chicago and New York are thought to be top
contenders among the 13 submissions the foundation received for potential
library hosts.
So far one site has already been nixed - Kenya.
A proposal from a university in the African country was deemed
ineligible since the submission was “not responsive to the guidelines,” the
foundation said this week.
