Members of the academia have continued to mourn the death of the former
vice chancellor, University of Lagos, Emeritus Professor Ade Ajayi who died on
Saturday at the age of 85.
Following the news of his death which was not broken until Sunday
evening, his residence yesterday became Mecca of sort with people trooping to
commiserate with the family.
He was said to have died at his Ojo’badan Avenue, Old Bodija, Ibadan
residence after a weeklong self-organised documentary activities with his
children and grandchildren, most of who came home from overseas for the
activities not knowing it was his send-forth to the great beyond.
A former student of the late Ade-Ajayi, Abidoye Babalola disclosed that
his former teacher saw his death coming and adequately prepared for it.
The former student of the deceased at the University of Ibadan, then
University College, Ibadan (UCI) between 1960 and 1963 disclosed that his
teacher just last week assembled all his children and grandchildren, played
with them up till Friday before his death on Saturday.
Late Ajayi was said to have taken all members of his family to the
residence of one of his colleagues and friend, Oladipo Akinkugbe on Friday and
on arrival that evening, he became weak and asked his wife, Christiana to help
him pray for the children that they would all be greater than him.
Fayemi Mourns Ade-Ajayi
Ekiti State governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has expressed sadness over the
death of eminent historian and former vice chancellor of University of Lagos,
Emeritus Professor Jacob Festus Ade-Ajayi, who passed on Sunday, August 10,
2014.
Fayemi in a statement by his chief press secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode,
described the Ikole-Ekiti born renowned scholar and administrator as an
intellectual giant whose legacies would continue to benefit generations to
come.
