Heather Mack, 19, and her 21-year-old boyfriend, Tommy Schaefer, were collared after the luggage carrying the body of Sheila von Wiese Mack, 62, was found in the back of a taxi parked in front of the exclusive St. Regis Bali in Nusa Dua on Tuesday, the Jakarta Post reported.A police officer escorts suspect Heather Mack, 19, (c.) during an investigation at a police office in Nusa Dua on Indonesian resort island of Bali.
“When we opened the suitcase we were really surprised as we found a dead body,” South Kuta Police Chief Comr. Gede Redastra told the paper.

“There was blood and wounds to her forehead.”
The slain woman was also an American national.
Mark Bacharach, a close friend of hers, said von Wiese-Mack had long struggled with her daughter after her husband's death in 2006.
“At least four or five of us would say to kick her out. She was hanging out with a bad crowd,” he told NBC News. “But Sheila always took her back. [Heather] could be as charming and self-effacingly sweet one minute, and then a vicious little monster the next.”

He said Mack recently dropped out of college and was living in a hotel leading to further clashes before embarking on their tropical vacation which von Wiese Mack afforded thanks to her Starwood travel points.
Schaefer, who had also dropped out of college, identifies himself as a hip-hop artist online.

The taxi driver alerted police to the suitcase after a couple — identified later as Mack and Schaefer — put it in the car and disappeared.
“After they put in the suitcase, they went back into the lobby,” the driver, I Ketut Wirjana, told the paper.
“They told me to wait. But after waiting almost two hours, they hadn’t appeared.”

Cops reviewed footage of security cameras at the hotel and interviewed several guests, Redastra said. Police believe Schaefer killed the woman after a fight on Monday night.
“We don’t know yet why he killed the victim,” Redastra said.
“But Tommy and the victim had a fight last night in the hotel lobby.”
Police found and arrested the couple on Wednesday.
