Production on the supersized tablet would begin in the first quarter of
2015, Bloomberg said.
The iPhone may not be the only Apple product that’s getting bigger.
The tech titan’s suppliers are gearing up to produce an iPad with a
12.9-inch display that would make it Apple’s largest tablet, according to
Bloomberg News, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.
Sales of the iPad, which currently comes with 9.7-inch and 7.9-inch
screens, have cooled this year as consumers opt for smartphones with large
displays as well as for cheaper tablets from such Apple rivals as Samsung.
Apple’s tablet market share fell to 36% last year compared to 53% in
2012, according to research firm IDC.
Making an iPad with a bigger screen could be a way to attract more
business customers, still a largely untapped market for Apple — and one of the
reasons behind the company partnering with IBM earlier this year.
Apple is also widely expected to unveil revamped iPhones with larger
screens at its Sept. 9 media event in California.
