THE Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved
the promotion of Six Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) of Police to the rank
of Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Police to fill in the void left by the
Mohammed Abubakar led management team. The PSC also elevated two Commissioners
of Police (CPs) to AIGs.
The promotion, according to the statement from
the Commission yesterday, is with effect from Tuesday 19th August 2014. The
promoted officers, who would expectedly form the police top hierarchy includes
Dan’Azumi Doma, Mamman Tsafe, David Omojola, Solomon Arase, Christopher Katso
and Salihu Hashidu, while the AIGs are Hilary Opara and Sotonye Wakama.
Recall that the retirement of the former IGP
Abubakar and the elevation of Suleiman Abba, who was an AIG, then implied that
the DIGs under Abba's predecessor had to retire, as it is not obtainable in
military and paramilitary service for a junior officer to head his seniors in
service.
The statement signed by Ferdinand Ekpe, the
Assistant Director Press and Public Relations stated that the Commission
re-affirmed its earlier decision that promotions from the ranks of Assistant
Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to AIGs would only be done after interviews with
the affected officers.
Also the Commission earlier at its 6th plenary
held on 12th August 2014 reviewed the time limit within which aggrieved police
officers can lodge complaints against punishment meted to them to thirty (30)
days from the receipt of the decisions. It has also availed aggrieved officers
the opportunity to appeal directly to the Commission where an action on its decision
is not implemented by the Police authorities as directed by it.
