Announcing the new innovation for the private candidate examination in
Lagos, WAEC Head of National Office (HNO), Mr. Charles Eguridu, said the
’walk-in candidates’ was for intending candidates for the November/December
WASSCE, who were unable to register during the normal registration period.
‘’They can still register and sit for the examination as ‘walk-in
candidates’. The registration will commence on Tuesday, August 26 and continue
throughout the duration of the examination. The registration fee per
walk-in-candidates is N25,000 only,’’ he said.
The HNO explained that the walk-in candidates would only be able to sit
the examination in cities and towns where the council’s offices were located.
On guidelines for registration, Eguridu said interested candidates
should go to any WAEC zonal or branch office, with two passport photographs, in
addition to the registration fee of N25,000 in bank draft drawn in favour of
the West African Examinations Council not later than the day of the paper they
intended to sit.
According to him, such candidates must complete the registration
formalities at any WAEC zonal or branch office and register without prejudice
to the minimum number of subjects.
The introduction of the new innovation would give opportunity to
candidates who did not perform well in the just released May/June 2014 WASSCE
results in which only 529, 425 candidates (31.28 per cent) of the 1,705,976
candidates that sat for the examination had five credits.
