First Lady Michelle Obama is proving herself a very dear friend to the
fashion world.
Obama, a master of both high and low sartorial styles, will be hosting
a Fashion Education Workshop at the White House next month.
According
to an email obtained by Women's Wear Daily, celebrated designers like
Prabal Gurung, Reed Krakoff, Maria Cornejo, and Bibhu Mohapatra have been
invited to attend "to bring members of the fashion industry to the White
House and enlighten, educate and mentor the next generation of fashion leaders."
In addition, college students from around the Washington area will
attend the Oct. 8 educational workshop, which means to help students meet
industry heavyweights.
It's not the first time Obama has shown her passion for fashion
education.
At the ribbon cutting ceremony for the 2014 Costume Institute at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, the First Lady, flanked by Vogue editor in chief
Anna Wintour, spoke of the importance of education within the biz.
"Fashion isn't an exclusive club for runway shows," she said
at the time. "This is for anyone curious about fashion."
She concluded: "Fashion is a business and an art."
The first-ever fashion workshop will kick off the White House's
Celebration of Design reception, a glossy event.
