The Awujale of Ijebuland and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland,
Oba Kayode Adetona, has assured all sons and daughters of Ijebuland, visitors
and tourists alike, that adequate precautionary measures will be put in place
to ensure that the 2014 edition of the annual Ojude-Oba festival be Ebola Virus
Disease-free.
The traditional ruler stated this through the coordinator,
Ojude Oba Festival, Chief Fassy Yusuf, at a world press conference, on Tuesday,
to herald this year’s celebration at the Heritage Hall, Aafin Awujale,
Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
Yusuf flanked by others members of the planning committee,
said it was not unmindful of the fact that the festival would attract about
35,000 people, saying it would partner with the Ogun State Ministry of Health
on public sensitisation.
He added that precautionary measures against the spread of
the disease through the provision of hand sanitisers, hand wash and other
protective equipment would be available within and around the festival ground.
He said: “Ojude Oba Festival Committee has been
holding regular consultative meetings with various stakeholders, including the
Ward Heads and the various ethnic groups in Ijebu Ode, to ensure adequate
mobilisation and sensitisation of our people. It is salutary to report that we
are making tremendous progress in this regard.
“To cope with health- cum medical exigencies, we are
partnering with the Ogun State Ministry of Health and its agencies and some
non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to put their facilities at the disposal
of the Festival Committee throughout the duration of the festival. They have
graciously obliged us.”
