"As the deadly Ebola virus trickles its way through the
United States, fighting its disease is no reason to compromise style," the
description reads. "The short dress and chic gas mask will be the talk of
Milan, London, Paris, and New York as the world's fashionistas seek global
solutions to hazmat couture."
Brands On Sale created the costume after getting requests
for a more feminine and revealing version of their Ebola containment suit
costume, chief executive Johnathon Weeks told The News on Monday.
"They kept saying, 'is there any way to sexify it?'"
he said.
The company has sold "a few" sexy containment
suits since they arrived last week, Weeks said, but "hundreds" of the
original suits have been purchased.
Controversial costumes like the Ebola-related ones are all
in the spirit of the holiday, he said. Brands On Sale carries a number of
getups for "people who want the shock factor," including a baby
marijuana plant outfit.
"Halloween is supposed to be fun. It is supposed to be
outrageous," he said. "People need to lighten up and have a sense of
humor about this holiday."
The Brands On Sale outfit is one of two "sexy"
Ebola worker costumes that have caused a stir on social media.
The other one, an image of a bright yellow "Sexy Ebola
Nurse Costume" that was supposedly being sold for 45 Great British pounds
($73), was later revealed to be a hoax.
The original photo was actually
taken from an October 2013 HalloweenCostumes.com tutorial on making a "Sexy
Breaking Bad" outfit.
