Roberto Martinez hailed the maturity of his Everton side after they blew away Lille
on Thursday night and claimed they can go all way in the Europa League.
The Toffees took a major step towards the knockout stages
with a comfortable 3-0 win over the French outfit at Goodison Park,
courtesy of goals from Leon Osman, Phil Jagielka and Steven Naismith.
“We showed an incredible maturity, playing in Europe -
something it seems we have been doing for many seasons, when the reality is
that it is a new experience for us,” said Martinez.
The victory over Lille leaves the unbeaten Merseysiders top
of Group H with eight points from four games and two to play.
Martinez admits he is now dreaming of lifting the trophy,
and ending the club’s 20-year silverware drought.
"I know it is a long time since we won a trophy. But
European competition is in our DNA and we need to galvanise it,” added the
Spaniard.
"Obviously we are in November, and if you start talking
about where you can get in competitions, you might look a little bit foolish.
"What we want to do is every game we go into, we want
to win it. I think the squad is large enough and has enough quality. We want to
be in the Europa League as long as we can be."
