Jennifer Aniston is fighting back.
The 45-year-old actress and her fertility have been the center of
incessant rumors for years, but now Aniston has something to say about
why she hasn't reproduced.
"I don't like (the pressure) that people put on me, on women — that you've failed yourself as a female because you haven't procreated," Aniston told Allure magazine's January 2015 issue.
"I don't think it's fair. You may not have a child come out of your vagina, but that doesn't mean you aren't mothering — dogs, friends, friends' children."
Aniston showed off her fit physique in a series of poses for the
glossy, including a topless one with her longtime hair stylist Chris
McMillan.
"This continually is said about me: that I was so career-driven and
focused on myself that I don't want to be a mother, and how selfish that
is," Aniston, who was married to actor Brad Pitt before parting ways in 2005, said.
"Even saying it gets me a little tight in my throat."
Pitt went on to have six children with now wife Angelina Jolie shortly after the two split.
"I have a lot of friends who decided not to have children, who can't
have children, or are trying but are having a difficult time. There's
all sorts of reasons why children aren't in people's lives, and no one
has the right to assume," she noted.
"It's quite rude, insulting and ignorant."
Aniston's recent transformation role in "Cake" has already landed her a SAG and Golden Globe nomination.
"A woman going physically unattractive is where you get recognition and some sort of respect," she said of her character.
"You read things like, 'Oh, finally, she's acting!'" It's "quite sexist, to be honest, because men don't get that."
Aniston is currently enjoying engagement life with fiancé Justin Theroux, and she told Allure how "proud of him" she is.
"We have so much fun together... It was nice to learn how to sort of
relinquish control and let someone really care deeply for you. It's
quite wonderful."
