'Spreads Political Interference into Two State Institutions'

DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach says Sars and the Hawks are facing political interference.
CAPE TOWN - Democratic Alliance (DA) Member of Parliament (MP) Glynnis Breytenbach says political interference that has long rocked the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has spread to two other critical state institutions.

Addressing the Cape Town Press Club yesterday, she says Anwa Dramat's suspension as head of the Hawks and the scandal involving senior South African Revenue Services (Sars) officials show President Jacob Zuma's administration is hell-bent on destroying both the crime-fighting unit and the investigative capacity of Sars.
She said the DA would reintroduce a Constitutional Amendment Bill this year to change the way the head of the NPA is appointed.

“It’s a bill which was conceived by former DA MP Dene Smuts who did most of the work on it. It’s very sound and we intend to introduce it this year to try and stop the abuse of the NPA without consequences.”
