‘Revenge of
the Nerds’
That’s one tough nerd.
“Revenge of the Nerds” star Robert Carradine and his wife survived a
brutal head-on crash with a semi-truck in Colorado last week, local police
confirmed.
Carradine, 60, was driving northbound on Highway 145 near Dolores on
March 5 at around 2:15 p.m. when his car crossed a dividing line and slammed
head-on into the rig.
The 59-year-old truck driver from Wisconsin punched his brakes and
skidded 31 feet before Carradine’s 2003 Mercury Marauder smashed into him,
according to the accident report obtained by the Daily News.
Carradine’s estimated speed was 60 miles per hour on a dry road, the
report said.
The actor’s car was totaled while the truck veered off the road and hit
a highway sign before stopping on its wheels on the southbound shoulder.
“Drugs and alcohol were not a factor,” Colorado State Police Sgt. James
Saunders told The News.
“The cause of the crash was a lane violation. Why he drove out of his
lane still has not been determined,” he said.
The cop said the couple is alive today thanks to their seatbelts, “In
crashes with this magnitude of damage, seatbelts save lives. It takes two
seconds to put your seatbelt on. It’s always worth it,” he said.
Road conditions were
Carradine, the brother of late “Kung Fu” star David Carradine, was
cited for careless driving.
He and wife Edith Carradine, 54, were transported to a hospital with
serious but non-life threatening injuries, The Cortez Journal reported.
The truck driver was not injured.
Dolores is in southwest Colorado, near the Utah border.
Carradine is best known for playing frat geek Lewis Slotnick in several
“Revenge of the Nerds” films and also portrays dad Sam McGuire on the hit
Disney Channel series “Lizzie McGuire
