Leeds United have announced they have suspended
assistant manager Steve Thompson over an
"internal matter".
The
50-year-old only joined head coach Neil Redfearn's backroom staff in December,
leaving Championship rivals Huddersfield to take up the role.
Thompson
has been praised for the impact he has made at the club in recent weeks, with the
Whites having lost just three games since his arrival.
However,
the 50-year-old has now fallen foul of director of football Nicola Salerni, who has taken the
decision to suspend him from his duties due to an unspecified matter.
The
development plunges head coach Redfearn's future into doubt.
Leeds'
third permanent manager of the season has been won widespread praise for the
job he has done but is out of contract in the summer and the loss of his former
Bolton teammate would appear to undermine his position.
"Director
of football Nicola Salerno has suspended the assistant coach Steve Thompson
from his duties at the club," read a club statement.
"This
is an internal matter and the club will make no further comment."
