Motorcyclist, Passenger Die in Lagos Accident

A yet-to-be-identified motorcyclist and his passenger have been crushed to death on the Odogunyan Road, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

 

 

The incident happened around 3pm on Saturday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that rider was trying to manoeuvre between two speeding trucks when the incident happened.

An official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the men died on the spot.

He said, “The incident happened at about 3pm around White House bus stop. The rider and his passenger were trying to manoeuvre between two trucks and in the course of doing that the rider lost concentration.

“The truck drivers were unaware and one of them crushed the two men. They died instantly.”

One of the truck drivers, who later realised what had happened, was said to have fled the scene in his truck.

It was learnt that a convoy of the Ogun State Government, which was passing by at the time, gave the truck driver a chase.

He was said to have been arrested around Sabo Roundabout in the Ikorodu area.

The spokesperson for LASTMA, Mrs. Bola Ajao, confirmed the incident.

She added that the agency worked with policemen from the Sagamu Road Police Division.

She said, “The convoy was able to get the driver of the truck arrested. He was handed over to the police, while the two victims, who we are not in position to confirm dead, were rushed to the Ikorodu General Hospital.”

The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu, confirmed that the victims died, adding that their corpses had been deposited in a morgue.

In a related development, several people were injured in a motor accident around 5am on Saturday on the Agric end of the Ikorodu Road.

LASTMA officials, as well as the police, were said to have controlled the traffic generated by the accident.

Nwosu told our correspondent the accident involved a Mack trailer with registration number, AAA 156XD; a Tata bus with number plate, LND699XC, and a Vanagon bus marked, KSF 413 XH.

He said, “Around 5.20am, an accident was reported involving a Mack trailer carrying a container. The trailer driver lost control and the container fell on a Tata bus, as well as a Vanagon bus.

“The driver of the Tata bus sustained injury. The vehicles involved were badly damaged, but no life was lost.”
