Randy Orton was barely allowed a moment to celebrate
cementing his Extreme Rules title shot at Seth Rollins’ WWE World Heavyweight
championship on last night’s Raw before his face was smashed into the canvas.
Orton, 35, dropped Ryback with an RKO in the show’s main
event to outlast The Big Guy and Roman Reigns following extensive interference
from The Authority’s hired guns - but he was unable to avoid a sneak Curb Stomp
attack from for Rollins.
Reigns, who got a win back over his pre-Wrestlemania rival
earlier in the show, was taken out of contention and left crumpled on the ramp
after two titanic punches from Big Show before Orton slipped in the decisive
blow as Ryback sought to hold off J&J Security.
With Brock Lesnar suspended indefinitely for last week’s one
man riot, Orton - who defeated Seth at Wrestlemania before the canny ex-Shield
star successfully cashed in his Money in the Bank contract - now assumes pole
position as number one contender.
Elsewhere, Neville impressed with a sterling showing against
champ Rollins in only his second match on the flagship WWE show.
The Geordie high-flyer, 28, zipped around the ring at an
incredible pace but was ultimately glorious in defeat as he too was felled by
the champ’s high impact finisher.
