In furtherance of its corporate social
responsibility, Caverton Offshore Support Group Plc has partnered with
the National Sickle Cell Foundation to help persons impacted by the
sickle cell disease lead normal lives.
Caverton is the leading provider of marine, aviation and logistics services to local and international oil and gas companies in Nigeria.
Bode Makanjuola, chief executive officer
of Caverton Offshore Support, recently presented a N10 million donation
to the foundation to pay for hip and shoulder replacement surgeries for
persons with vascular necrosis of the hip and shoulder joints.
The donation was received by Olu
Akinyanju, founder of the foundation, who thanked Caverton for the
gesture “We are happy that Caverton decided to help about 5 patients
with the surgery costs. I have known the COSG founders for many years
and I’m happy to have them support our hip and shoulder replacement
initiative”, he said.
Caverton had also made a donation of N5
million in 2011 towards the installation of solar powered light at the
National Sickle Cell centre to address the challenges with burglary due
to lack of lighting at night.
The National Sickle Cell Foundation was
established in 1994 for the purpose of driving sickle cell research,
providing appropriate care for affected persons, educating on proper
management of the disease and to drive the establishment of state
centre’s across the country.
Sickle cell disease is a genetic disorder that is a life-long condition which has no cure.
