A former Special Adviser on National Assembly
Matters to the President, Senator Florence Ita-Giwa, has called on the 8th
National Assembly members to be independent minded in their choice of
leadership.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ita-Giwa
stressed the need for cordiality among the legislators, its leadership and the
executive arm of government in order to strengthen the country’s democracy and
promote the rule of law.
She stated that irrespective of the different
political leanings of the lawmakers, they should ensure that they work together
as an entity without undermining the dignity of the legislative chambers.
She said the 8th National Assembly should avoid
distractions and “unnecessary altercations with the executive arm in order to
legislate excellently for the nation.”
