Conscious of environmental hazards
inherent in blasting and mining limestone around the limestone belts in
Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State, Lafarge WAPCO Operations,
an operational business of Lafarge Africa, has begun construction of
housing units for the relocation of about 1,000 people in its host
community.
The construction of housing units (first
phase) and other agreed facilities for the entire people of Oke-Oko,
Sekoni, one of Lafarge WAPCO’s host communities in Ewekoro on 60 acres
of land, was conceived by the cement company to relocate the people to a
more environment-friendly place where blasting and mining of limestone
would not affect them.
Speaking at the inauguration of housing
facilities held at new Oke-Oko, Sekoni in Ewekoro recently, Adepeju
Adebajo, managing director, Lafarge Africa, disclosed that the
relocation of the people and their deities was initiated by the
management to secure its host community from the environmental hazards
of limestone blasting and mining.
