The 25th annual meeting of the World Economic Forum on
Africa (AF15) holds from 3 to 5 June 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa
with the theme: “Then and Now: Reimagining Africa’s Future”.
Over 1,150 participants including heads
of government and leaders from business and society are expected to
attend the three-day meetings to take stock of progress over the last 25
years (of the Africa meetings), share insights on the present landscape
and identify innovative approaches to accelerate inclusive growth to bring about Africa’s sustainable development in the future.
According to WEF, “double-digit growth is
now needed for sustainable development [in Africa], and the onus is on
leaders to address systemic structural changes that can boost
investment, enhance competitiveness, strengthen risk resilience and
harness opportunities arising from technology adoption in all sectors.”
Only Okonjo-Iweala’s participation was confirmed at the time of this report.
On the sidelines of the WEF Africa meeting, BusinessDay is
launching its Nigeria-South Africa Investment Summit, as an annual
thought leadership initiative to promote healthy investment between
Africa’s two largest economies.
Yearly, it will attract over 200 leading CEOs and
investors from both countries for a whole day of dialogue around key
challenges they face in the two markets.
The inaugural event holding today, June 4, 2015, will be
over breakfast at the prestigious WESTIN Hotel in Cape Town and will be
attended by mainly global leaders as well as investors and other
participants attending the WEF Africa meeting.
The event will feature a keynote presentation by Doyin
Salami, Senior Fellow at the Lagos Business School and Member of both
Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee and the IMF Advisory Group on
Sub-Saharan Africa.
Other speakers at the event include Ambassador Lulu Louis
Mnguni, the South African Ambassador to Nigeria; Foluso Phillips,
Chairman, Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce, as well as senior
executives from the MTN Group South Africa and Standard Bank, among
