The Frenchman is understood to have agreed a four-year
contract with Louis van Gaal’s side after the Saints accepted an offer worth
around £25million from the Premier League
giants.
Schneiderlin has been closely monitored by Arsenal in recent seasons but the Gunners did not
follow up their interest, leaving United clear to close a deal.
The 25-year-old’s move to Old Trafford is likely to be
confirmed on Wednesday, when the transfer window will officially open.
United are also understood to be pursuing Bastian
Schweinsteiger.
The Bayern Munich
midfielder is weighing up his future having fallen down the pecking order at
the Allianz Arena.
He is reportedly tempted by a switch to Old Trafford having
been assured he will get regular first-team football under Van Gaal, and United are quietly
confident they can close a deal.
United also remain keen on Real Madrid defender Sergio
Ramos, but could face competition from near neighbours Manchester City for the Spaniard’s signature.
Ramos wants to leave Real this summer but they are
reportedly demanding £65 million to part with the centre-back and United and
City are weighing up whether to meet their valuation.
