The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has inaugurated its USA branch, in Atlanta, Georgia, in keeping with its vision of remaining a global reference point for professionalism and ethics in the banking and finance industry.
This was necessitated by the need to serve Nigerian bankers in Diaspora, especially, those resident in the US.
The inauguration of CIBN USA branch, which is the third to be set up by
the Institute abroad, was necessitated by the increasing number of professionals including the Institute’s members who were relocating overseas for more lucrative and fulfilling professional opportunities coupled with the encouraging interests and requests from members and interested candidates in Diaspora for opportunities to participate in the Institute’s wide range of activities.
Debola Osibogun, president/chairman of Council of the Institute, while delivering her welcome address, observed that “this initiative has indeed created veritable platforms for members of the Institute in those countries to interact and also add value to activities of the Institute.”
The US branch will give full expression and fulfillment to the yearnings of US-based members to actively participate in the activities of the Institute and contribute meaningfully to the growth of the sector in Nigeria, she said.
“This global acceptance and confidence is a testimony to the enriched standards of professionalism and best practice in Nigeria,” she said.
Also in attendance during the inauguration were Segun Aina, immediate past president of CIBN; Bayo Olugbemi, national ireasurer, CIBN; Seye Awojobi, Registrar/CE, CIBN, Geoffrey Teneilabe, Consul-General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Atlanta, USA; Akanmu Adebayo, Director, Centre for Conflict Management, Kennesaw State University; Johnson Ayodele Akingbade; Tinu Thompson-Ajayi, chairperson, APWB, and Emmanuel Amosu, chairman, CIBN US branch, among others.
