A Massachusetts woman charged with drugging and molesting her grandson
in Skype sessions with an NYPD sergeant met her play pal in perversity
through the adultery web site Ashley Madison, the Daily News has
learned.
The 52-year-old woman, whose name is not being released to protect the
identity of the victim, appeared distraught and wept during her
arraignment Tuesday in Brooklyn Federal Court.
Her lawyer argued for her release on $150,000 bail, deflecting concerns
by the prosecutor and a pre-trial service officer that his client could
not be trusted because she used fake names – "Jennie Ashley" and
"Jennie Needed" – in sordid Internet chats with Sgt. Alberto Randazzo.
The lawyer, Christopher Shella, revealed that the fake names were used on the Ashley Madison web site.
"That's what the other person called me," the woman chimed in, referring to Randazzo.
She was married at the time of the alleged molestation in 2011 and had
legal custody of the boy, who has since been placed in another home by
child welfare officials. The defendant's daughter, who is the boy's
mother, has “mental health challenges," Shella told Judge Pamela Chen.
Chen reserved decision on the bail issue while the woman tries to get a sister to post her home as surety on the bond.
The Ashley Madison website caters to adulterers with the slogan, "Life
is short. Have an affair." The defendant was married when she
communicated with Randazzo, who is single. It was Randazzo's girlfriend
who unmasked him as a sicko when she found stomach-churning evidence on
his computer and reported him to the NYPD.
Randazzo, 38, and the disgraceful granny each face a mandatory minimum
sentence of 15 years in prison if convicted of the sexual exploitation
of a child.
The woman, according to court papers, admitted to federal agents that
she had sexually abused her grandson during video chats with Randazzo,
and on more than one occasion she plied him with Ambien, Benadryl and
melatonin to put him into a deep sleep.
On July 5, 2011 she sent Randazzo a photo depicting her face and breasts.
"Omg, now I know why (the victim) is in love with them," he responded.
Randazzo is also charged with participating in Internet video sex with a Colorado woman and her 1-year-old son.
Randazzo, who was a veteran of the Midtown North Precinct, is suspended
without pay from the department and is being held without bail at
Metropolitan Detention Center.
